Sustainable Development 25 Appendix Terms and Definitions Terms and Definitions Explanation Child labor According to Chinese law, child labor refers to the employment of individuals under the age of 16 in work for remuneration. Forced labor Any work or service exacted from a person under the threat of a penalty, for which the person has not offered himself or herself voluntarily. Mortgage labor Pledge of service as collateral for repayment conditions of debts or other obligations that are not clearly or reasonably explained. Prison labor Labor performed by prisoners in prison. Human trafficking The recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons by improper means (such as force, abduction, fraud, or coercion), for the purpose of exploitation, including forced labor or sexual exploitation. Discrimination Any distinction, exclusion, or preference based on personal characteristics that denies individuals equal opportunities or treatment in employment is prohibited. This includes distinctions based on race, color, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, pregnancy status, marital status, religious beliefs, age (18 and over), disability, social background, political opinions, or union membership. Harassment Unwanted behavior directed at an individual without solicitation. This can occur as a single isolated event or as a series of related occurrences. Physical abuse Use or threat of physical punishment. Psychological and verbal abuse This includes yelling at employees, threatening, or using derogatory language against employees, as well as any language or behavior that attempts to undermine their self-esteem. Economic violence Any act that causes economic harm to an individual. It may include deprivation of property, restriction of access to financial resources, or exclusion from the labor market. Living wage The remuneration received for a standard workweek by workers in a particular place is sufficient to provide a decent standard of living for the workers and their families. The elements of a decent standard of living include food, water, housing, education, healthcare, transportation, clothing, and other basic needs, including provision for unexpected events. Confidential information This includes any sensitive information related to financial data, trade secrets, tariff rates, software code, personal records, intellectual property, purchasing behavior, business strategies, and any company documents marked "private" or "confidential", including information about Bosideng and its business partners. Conflict of interest A conflict of interest occurs when personal, social, financial, or political activities interfere with a company's interests, either actually or potentially.
